At Gatecrasher, the fare is strictly trance; hard, quickly pulsating tracks pounding to the point of hypnosis, from such artists as Paul Van Dyk, BT, Bedrock, and Moby. Over the two CDs, the tempo and intensity of the tracks rarely wavers, omitting a crucial element to the club experience -- the ebb and flow, tension and release necessary for a compelling DJ set. Gatecrasher has never suffered for such infractions, though, mainly because the party is as much about its environs as it is music. It encourages patrons to dress with "glamour and originality," and they do so with extravagance, creating costumes that make rave kids look conservative.
